So many people go on crash diets and extreme exercise routines to lose weight fast, but then find they put the weight back on again shortly after finishing. Why is that?
Crash diets are just that – they make you and your system crash. There are many problems with these types of diets and routines that I have found from my research. Many articles talk about crash diets and their effects on the body, and none of them sounded very good, but one of the main issues is that it puts your system into survival mode. What this means is that as soon as you are off the diet, your system will hold onto anything and everything that you give it. This reaction, unfortunately, is now your system will put back on all, or even worse more, weight than you lost on the diet.
The issue here goes further than the diet. It is in the belief that weight loss is a sprint to an end line. The truth is that weight loss is an endurance race that lasts the rest of our lives! Now don’t get scared, this is a good thing, and not as hard it sounds.
As an endurance runner, you are in this for the long haul. To make permanent weight loss a reality, you must make life long changes to your lifestyle. You must find a diet and an exercise routine that you can merge into your lifestyle. There are many different diets out there, and many more types of exercise routines to fit into anyone’s life.
Once you have started to merge them into your routines, keep on top of them. Like an endurance race, there are going to be obstacles that come up – a work trip, a holiday party, an illness, etc… You must pull yourself back up and get yourself back into the race. An endurance runner knows that it is a long run; if an obstacle slows them down, they can make it up down the road. They just need to keep their eye on the prize and keep to the race!
When you look at the next diet program and/or exercise routine – remember, it is not just a fast sprint to the end – you are getting ready to start on the endurance run that will bring you the weight loss that you want and get you the better health that you deserve!
